Cheesy Savoury Breakfast Waffles
Who doesn’t love waffles in the morning? Putting a savoury twist on morning waffles combines the best of both worlds!
Recipe Ingredients
Roasted Red Pepper Butter
- ½ cup butter, softened
- ¼ cup roasted red peppers, drained and minced
Spicy Maple Syrup
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 1 tsp chili powder
- ¼ tsp crushed red chili flakes
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
Waffles
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 ¾ cup buttermilk
- 1 cup Paradise Island Extra Old White Cheddar or Lactose Free Extra Old White Cheddar, grated
- 4 slices thick bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 tbsp fresh chives, minced
- oil spray
Accompaniments
- 2 cups microgreens
- 4 eggs, fried
Recipe Directions
Roasted Red Pepper Butter
1. In a small bowl combine butter and red peppers.
Maple Syrup
1. In a measuring cup combine maple syrup, chili powder, chili flakes, and cayenne pepper,
mix well.
Waffles
1. Preheat waffle iron
2. In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt
3. In a small bowl combine buttermilk and eggs.
4. Add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture and combine.
5. Gently fold in the cheese, bacon, and chives.
6. Spray oil on the preheated waffle iron and pour batter on according to the manufacturer’s
directions.
7. Serve immediately with butter, syrup, ½ cup microgreens, and a fried egg.
